Capitalise on the optimum time to be at the helm, as we will invest significantly in the pub upgrading the trading areas and accommodation. The ideal operator will have the creative vision and ability to deliver the optimum and consistent guest experience. Providing delectable drinks is a core offering, featuring a great selection of beers, spirits, wines, and cocktails, which you will serve to exceptional standards.

We are looking for someone who can deliver a delicious menu, and we are confident that your sumptuous food will be the main reason guests choose to visit the Black Lion. A cosy internal trading area will ensure they become the heart of the local community.

With 13 bedrooms, the hotel side of the business requires attention to detail. You’ll create a home from home atmosphere and have the determination to drive the business forward. A small function room also opens up possibilities for the right operator with the right vision.

Meeting statutory requirements will be second nature to you, and previous experience of achieving excellent results and feedback on compliance will be evident.

You will be successful because you seek new opportunities to evolve. You will be motivated to innovate, creating new angles to evoke interest using your social media channels. You will make memories in your pub that guests will share on social, also receiving excellent reviews for your service.

The pub

The Black Lion Hotel, in the heart of Richmond North Yorkshire, was once an elegant Georgian coach house. Now it is a 3* AAA Gold Award hotel where you'll find a warm friendly welcome. You’ll be taking the reins of an award-winning bar, enjoying a range of beers, wines, and spirits, as well as cask ales like Black Sheep, and Timothy Taylors.

Guests can dine in the front restaurant or snug or next to the bar, or in the first-floor Bistro Restaurant and Function Room. With seating for up to forty guests, the Bistro can accommodate weddings, parties, christenings, and business meetings in stylish surroundings. The extensive menu covers modern takes on classics and light bites as well as more traditional fare.

Sleeping at the Black Lion Hotel means spacious single, double, twin and family en-suite rooms with TV and room service and Free 80mb Fibre Optic WiFi in all rooms. There’s non-smoking throughout. The pub is pet-friendly and rambler-friendly, so guests can bring their dogs to one of Britain's greatest outdoor playgrounds with confidence. There are also storage facilities for bicycles and laundry facilities for those avid walkers.

The Black Lion is situated just off Market Square right in the centre of the town and almost opposite the Friary Gardens, one of Richmond's most famous mediaeval monuments and a good place to start exploring the heritage of the town. A short walk around the corner brings you to the centre of Richmond with its wealth of Norman, Mediaeval and Georgian architecture including one of the oldest and largest cobbled squares in England.

Richmond dates back to the 11th Century and besides being known as the 'gateway to the Dales' it is also a beautiful and fascinating town that draws visitors from around the world. There's something for history lovers, a thriving contemporary art gallery and cinema and a range of small music venues and theatres too.

The pub sits in a bustling market town with regular footfall out of season and increased tourism from Easter to Autumn. Our investment will ensure the pub is a standout venue to attract visitors old and new, near and far. Guests will love the cosy indoor atmosphere and choose your pub for regular visits throughout the week and at weekends.
